Pin Payments Gateway

The Pin Payments Gateway extension allows you to use Australian-based Pin Payments as a credit card processor without a bank merchant account. Using Pin Payment’s secure Pin.js payment form, whereby the credit card details are never received by your server, you can process payments in any currency supported by Pin. It also supports 3D Secure, Apple Pay and Google Pay, refunds, and authorising payments to capture later. Pin Payments supports the Subscriptions extension. It also supports re-using cards. When a logged in visitor pays, they are set up in Pin Payments as a customer and can use the same card on a future order. This is a timesaver for returning customers.

  1. Download the .zip file from your WooCommerce account.
  2. Go to: WordPress Admin > Plugins > Add New and Upload Plugin with the file you downloaded with Choose File.
  3. Install Now and Activate the extension.
More information at: Install and Activate Plugins/Extensions.

Setup and Configuration

  1. Log in to your Pin Payments dashboard and click Account from the menu.
  2. Make note of your API Keys, both Publishable (used with Pin.js) and Secret (used for server-based calls).
    • If you have completed the activation process, you will have both test and live API key sets. If you have not, you will need to follow this process again with your live API keys once you’ve been activated.
  3. Log into your WordPress Dashboard.
  4. Click on WooCommerce | Settings from the left hand menu, then the top tab “Payments”. You should see “Pin Payments” as an option in the list.
  5. You should see “Pin Payments” displayed across the top of the page as a link also. Click on this to configure the plugin, and you will see a list of options:
    • Tick to “Enable this payment method”.
    • The “Title” option allows you to determine what your customers will see this payment option displayed as. You might choose for this to be something like “Pin Payments” or “Credit card”.
    • The “Enable Test mode” option allows you to test transactions with this payment gateway to ensure your setup is correct.
    • Enter your “Publishable API Key” and “Secret API Key” (both test and live if you have them).
    • Optionally, tick “Disable Saved Cards” if you don’t want logged in customers to be able to re-use their cards, or “Default to first saved card” to select a customer’s saved card by default.
    • Tick “Authorisation only” if you want to authorise payments and capture them later. The payment is captured when you change the order from On hold to Processing or Completed. This doesn’t apply to subscription renewals.
    • Tick “Enable 3D Secure” if you want customers to verify payments with their bank (see 3D Secure below).
    • To offer Apple Pay or Google Pay, see Apple Pay and Google Pay below.
  6. Save changes in WordPress and you’re done.

3D Secure

When 3D Secure is enabled, the customer may be asked by their bank to verify the payment after placing their order. The order is set to On hold until this is complete. If the check fails, the customer is returned to the payment page to try again. Tick “Accept non-3D Secure cards” to also accept cards that aren’t enrolled in 3D Secure.

Apple Pay and Google Pay

Apple Pay and Google Pay require an SSL certificate, and aren’t offered for subscription products.
  • Apple Pay: tick “Apple Pay” and save. The extension will add the domain verification file and register your domain with Pin Payments. The “Set up Apple Pay” section shows the status of each step.
  • Google Pay: tick “Google Pay” and enter your “Google Pay Gateway Merchant ID” from the Google Pay section of your Pin Payments dashboard. The “Google Pay Merchant ID” is provided by Google once you’ve been approved for production access, and can be left blank in test mode.
You can change the style, size and position of the buttons in the settings.

Refunds

Refunds can be processed from the WooCommerce order screen, for all or part of the order.

Test mode

In test mode, you can use Pin Payments Test Cards to simulate different transaction statuses. To learn more, see: Pin Payment Test Cards. The test cards page also lists cards for testing 3D Secure.

Troubleshooting

Errors from Pin Payments are logged at WooCommerce > Status > Logs (look for “woo_pin_payments”).
