Getting started with Rental Products

Rental Products for WooCommerce is the all-in-one plugin for selling and managing rentals directly through your WooCommerce store. Whether you rent out equipment, party supplies, furniture, tools, or anything else, this plugin helps you handle bookings, availability, and logistics without needing a separate rental platform.

You can enable flexible rental options including local delivery, on-site pickup and return, or shipping. With built-in support for date selection, inventory control, and optional buffer periods, it’s a powerful solution for stores of all sizes looking to rent out products online with WooCommerce.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to install and update the Rental Products plugin, set up your first rental product, configure global settings, and prepare your store to accept rental bookings from customers.

  1. Purchase Rental Products for WooCommerce and install it from your WooCommerce account. For more information, check out this guide on installing WooCommerce extensions.
  2. Activate Rental Products through the Plugins menu.
  3. Configure the plugin settings.

Once you’ve installed Rental Products for WooCommerce, the next step is to tailor it for your store.

Go to Rentals > Settings under the WooCommerce menu in your site’s WordPress admin dashboard. For more information on configuring specific settings, check out this guide.

Create your first Rental Product

To create a Rental Product:

  1. Go to Products > All Products and click to either add or edit an existing product.
  2. On the Product data meta box, click to set one of the following options for a product:
    • Rental only: Choose this option if you want to offer the product for rental only.
    • Rental or purchase: Choose this option if you want to offer both the option to rent or sell this product.
    • Use the Rental product data and Product data metaboxes to set all the rental options required, like pricing, availability, and more:

Note: For variable products, there are additional rental options available when editing each variation.

3. Click to Publish or Update the product to make it available for rental in your store.

Now that you have configured your first rental products for your store, we’ll walk you through some helpful usage cases for our plugin: 

  • Rental Products for WooCommerce adds rental stock/price in the columns on the Products > All Products page in your store’s WordPress admin dashboard.
  • You can also filter the product list by rentals.
  • When a customer orders rental products, the order will show an – Includes rentals suffix next to the order name.
  • In the WooCommerce > Orders list, you can also filter the orders list by Order including/excluding rentals.
  • For details on how to manage or edit orders with rentals, read the information in the Order & Inventory Management document.
  • The Rentals menu gives you access to a list of sub-menus:
    • Dashboard: offers the latest and flagged rental orders and provides inventory insights.
    • Calendar: you can view an overview of every customer rental in a calendar format.
    • Inventory: with shortcuts to rental orders, products, and settings.
    • Tools: for advanced rental product management
