Order Tags Manager for WooCommerce allows you to organize, automate, and manage WooCommerce orders with visual tags and smart automation rules.

To start using a product from WooCommerce.com, you can use the โ€œAdd to storeโ€ functionality on the order confirmation page or the My subscriptions section in your account.

  1. Navigate to My subscriptions.
  2. Find the Add to store button next to the product youโ€™re planning to install.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen, and the product will be automatically added to your store.

— Create Your First Tags —

  1. Go to: WooCommerce > Settings > Order Tags .
  2. Click the “Add New Tag” button
  3. Fill in the tag details:
    Name: e.g., “VIP Customer”
    Background Color: Choose a color (e.g., gold #FFD700)
    Text Color: Choose contrasting color for readability (e.g., black #000000)
    Description: Optional notes for your team
  4. Click “Save Tag”
  5. Repeat to create more tags.

Recommended starter tags:

  • Priority levels: “Urgent”, “High Priority”, “Standard”
  • Customer types: “VIP”, “New Customer”, “Returning”, “Wholesale”
  • Fulfillment: “Express Shipping”, “Local Pickup”, “Same Day”
  • Special handling: “Gift Wrap”, “Fragile”, “Requires Signature”

— Tag Individual Orders Manually —

  1. Go to WooCommerce โ†’ Orders
  2. Click any order to open order details
  3. Look for the “Order Tags” meta box in the right sidebar
  4. Select a tag from the dropdown menu
  5. The tag appears instantly on the order
  6. To remove: Click the ร— button on the tag badge
  7. Tags also appear in the Orders list for quick visual reference

— Set Up Your First Automation Rule —

  1. Go to WooCommerce โ†’ Settings โ†’ Order Tags โ†’ Automation Rules
  2. Click “Create New Rule” button
  3. Fill in Rule Information:
    Name: “High Value VIP Orders”
    Description: “Auto-tag orders over $500 as VIP”
    Trigger Event: Select “New Order Created”
    Priority: Leave at 10
  4. Add Conditions:
    Click “Add Condition”
    Type: Select “Order Total”
    Operator: Select “is greater than”
    Value: Enter “500”
    For multiple conditions, choose “Match All” (AND) or “Match Any” (OR)
  5. Add Actions:
    Click “Add Action”
    Type: Select “Add Tag”
    Value: Select “VIP Customer” tag
    Add more actions if needed (order notes, emails, etc.)
  6. (Optional) Test Your Rule:
    Enter an existing order ID with total > $500
    Click “Test Rule”
    System confirms if rule would apply
  7. Click “Save Rule”
  8. Rule is now active and will run automatically!

Example Automation Rules for Common Scenarios:

Rule: Express Shipping Priority

IF Shipping Method = Express Delivery
THEN Add Tag "Priority Processing"
AND Add Order Note "Rush - Process within 24 hours"

Rule: New Customer Welcome

IF Customer Type = New Customer
AND Order Total >= $50
THEN Add Tag "First Order"
AND Add Tag "Eligible for Welcome Gift"

Rule: International Orders

IF Billing Country != United States
THEN Add Tag "International"
AND Add Order Note "Customs documentation required"

Rule: Wholesale Auto-Tagging

IF Order Total > $1000
OR Item Count >= 20
OR Payment Method = Bank Transfer
THEN Add Tag "Wholesale"

— Use Bulk Operations —

Scenario: You need to tag 50 Black Friday orders

  1. Go to WooCommerce โ†’ Orders
  2. Use filters/search to find the orders you need
  3. Select orders using checkboxes (or “Select All”)
  4. From Bulk Actions dropdown, select “Add Tags”
  5. Click “Apply”
  6. A modal opens showing all available tags
  7. Use the search box to find tags quickly
  8. Check the tags you want to apply
  9. Click “Add Selected Tags”
  10. Watch the progress bar
  11. Success! You have 60 seconds to “Undo” if needed

Same process for “Remove Tags” bulk action

— Filter Orders by Tags —

  1. Go to WooCommerce โ†’ Orders
  2. Find the “All Tags” dropdown above the orders list
  3. Select any tag to filter
  4. Orders refresh showing only tagged orders
  5. Combine with other filters (date, status, customer)
  6. Clear filter by selecting “All Tags”

— Tags Column —

On the WooCommerce -> Orders page, one column will be displayed called Tags. It will show the tags that are assigned to the particular order.
