AutomateWoo includes a preset that follows a completed order with an email containing related products. You can use WooCommerce’s automatically generated related products or the cross-sells assigned to products in your catalog.
Before you begin
↑ Back to top- Review Related Products, Up-Sells and Cross-Sells.
- Use meaningful product categories and tags when you plan to display related products. WooCommerce generates related products from shared category and tag relationships.
- Assign products under Product data > Linked Products > Cross-sells when you plan to use the cross-sells variable.
- Treat the email as a marketing message. Review your store’s marketing opt-in and unsubscribe settings before activating the workflow.
Create the workflow from the preset
↑ Back to top- Go to AutomateWoo > Workflows.
- Select Browse presets.
- Find Cross sell: Related products, then select Create workflow.
- Keep the workflow Disabled while you customize and preview it.
The preset creates the following configuration:
- Trigger: Order Completed starts the workflow when an order is completed and rechecks the status before the queued run.
- Rules: None are added by default.
- Timing: The email is delayed by one hour, and any rules are rechecked before it runs.
- Action: Send Email sends a non-transactional message to the customer.

Because the preset has no rules, it can email a customer after every completed order. Add rules when you need to limit eligible orders, products, or customers, or to control how often the workflow can run.
Choose related products or cross-sells
↑ Back to top- order.related_products: WooCommerce finds related products using categories and tags. Products already in the order are excluded; up to eight are displayed by default.
- order.cross_sells: AutomateWoo uses cross-sells assigned to the ordered products. Up to eight are displayed by default.
Both variables include published, catalog-visible products. They also respect the store setting that hides out-of-stock products. Up-sells assigned in the product editor are not used by either variable.
Customize the email
↑ Back to topThe preset addresses the message to the customer’s email address. Update the subject, heading, preheader, and wording to match your store. Keep Is transactional? disabled so AutomateWoo applies your marketing opt-in and unsubscribe settings.
The preset uses the order.related_products variable. Replace it with order.cross_sells using the Variables panel when you want the email to use the manually assigned cross-sells instead.
Test and activate the workflow
↑ Back to top- Save the workflow as Disabled. Select Preview in the Send Email action and choose a test order containing products with eligible recommendations. Check the email and product links.
- For an end-to-end test, use a staging store with test customers and email delivery under your control. Set the workflow to Active and save it. Disabled workflows do not queue events.
- Complete a test order. Check AutomateWoo > Queue for the delayed event, then check AutomateWoo > Logs after it runs.
- If no message arrives, check the order status, marketing opt-in settings, and eligible product relationships. Disable the staging workflow after testing, then activate and save the workflow on your store when it’s ready.
