Why are payouts to my bank account paused or suspended?

On occasion, automatic payouts to your bank account may be paused or suspended. Depending on the reason for the pause or suspension, you will see a different alert in the dashboard. It will either say:

  • “Payouts are temporarily suspended” or…
  • “Payouts are currently paused because a recent payout failed.”

Please see the correct section below for more details.

Payouts can be suspended for several reasons, including:

  • Disputes from your customers have seen a rapid or substantial increase.
  • Your account was flagged for manual review due to some irregular activity.
  • Stripe, our payments partner, has found other issues with your account.

When a suspension occurs on an active account, you should receive an email with information about the issue, either from the WooPayments team or Stripe. Please respond to this email with the required information to resume payouts.

If you did not receive an email, or have other questions, please contact support.

NOTE: Our support staff will not be able to disclose any specifics around why your account was suspended or what you must do to lift the suspension.

It may also help to access your Stripe Express account and see if any information is missing there. If it is, you’ll see an alert in the Stripe dashboard like this:

Providing whatever information is missing will help resolve the problem faster.

Lastly, you’ll want to be sure that your site follows our suggestions for preventing disputes. This can help avoid additional payout suspensions in the future.

In most cases, payouts are usually paused because there’s problem with your bank account that prevents us from issuing a payout. If this is the case, you’ll see a notice about it in a few different places in the dashboard.

The cause of the issue could be a number of things:

  • Your bank account number and/or routing number is incorrect.
  • Your bank has reported that your account has been closed.
  • Your account has insufficient funds, in the case of a debit.

To correct the issue, you’ll need to update your bank account details. You can also contact support to find out the exact issue with your bank account.
